What Are Privacy Web Browsers?

what are privacy based web browsers

Now, It’s no secret that online privacy is becoming increasingly hard to come by.  From invasive ads to data breaches and government surveillance, it’s hard to feel secure when browsing the web.  Why many people are turning to privacy-based browsers as a solution. These browsers prioritize user privacy by blocking tracking scripts, cookies, and other invasive elements, and what’s more offer features like encrypted connections and virtual private networks (VPNs).

In this article, we’ll explore the world of privacy-based browsers and how they can help protect your online identity.

But before we continue…

What Even is a Privacy Web Browser?

So, a private web browser is a special type of internet browser that enhances online security and privacy.  It works by preventing websites from tracking your browsing behavior, blocking ads and trackers by scrambling data sent over unencrypted connections, and allowing you to access the internet without leaving any digital footprints.

Even some privacy browsers take this a step further with additional features such as secure file-sharing options, built-in VPNs, encryption for emails and messages, and more.

You really can’t go wrong here and with these extra layers of protection for your online activities, you can rest assured knowing that your personal data is safe from prying eyes.

Privacy web browsers are a must-have tool for anyone who values their online privacy.  So, If you want to browse the internet securely and confidently, then setting up a privacy-friendly browser is a smart move.

But besides this, why should you use one?  Read on to discover the answer(s)!

Why You Should Use a Privacy Web Browser

Using a private web browser is an essential step in protecting your online security and privacy.  By blocking trackers, ads, and malicious code, you can browse the web without worrying about your information being collected or sold.

Additionally, a privacy browser can scramble data sent over unencrypted connections to help keep your private information safe from hackers.  It also offers secure file-sharing options so you can share files without fear of your data being intercepted by someone else.

Finally, many privacy browsers come with built-in VPNs that allow you to access the internet anonymously, making it even harder for third parties to track your activities.

They are the kind of thing that will make you think – what did you ever do without one and the best part is most are free to download.  Including our current top pick which we will share with you below;

Types of Privacy Browsers

Now, there are a variety of privacy browsers to choose from, depending on your needs and preferences.  Some of the most popular include Tor, Brave, Firefox Focus, DuckDuckGo, and Vivaldi.

Tor is an open-source browser that uses onion routing to provide anonymous browsing.  It’s also designed to be difficult for websites to track you online.  Many people use it for this reason to access the dark web – I shall say no more about this but Tor is free to use.  I don’t use it personally but I would say it is probably the most popular.

But my pick is Brave which is a Google Chromium-based browser that blocks ads, trackers, and other malicious codes by default.  It’s basically a stripped-down Google browser that has several built-in security features such as HTTPS Everywhere and script blocking.  It can be a nuisance to use for logins (having to do text verification on websites to login) because it is constantly bouncing off different IPs but this is actually a good thing.  And you can also EARN CRYPTO whilst browsing!

I usually make around $5 a month from Brave tokens which I swap for Ripple XRP.  This is not a lot but I know people do earn more.  Apparently using Steam for gaming can earn you a lot of Brave tokens.  But moving on…

Firefox Focus is another popular choice that provides private browsing with enhanced tracking protection and content-blocking options.

It also includes a “private mode” which prevents cookies from being stored on your device after you close the browser.

Yandex Browser – this is actually just as good as Brave and Tor.  It’s basically the Russian Google and it doesn’t monitor you like Google so it is a smart choice when considering your different options.

And finally, Vivaldi is an open-source Chromium-based browser (like Brave) that offers many customization options for users who want more control over their online experience. Its unique tab-stacking feature makes it easy to organize multiple websites in one window without cluttering up your screen space.

My pick is definitely the Brave Browser because of the Brave Tokens you can earn but here is a bit more information on how these browsers can work for you.

Main Features of Privacy Based Browsers

i.)  Private Browsing Windows

Private Browsing Windows are a great way to keep your online activity hidden and secure.  This feature is available on most modern browsers and can be easily enabled by selecting the “private browsing” option from the settings menu.

When enabled, this feature disables cookies, history tracking, and other data-collection methods used by websites to track user activity. It also prevents advertisers from targeting you based on your browsing habits.

Additionally, Private Browsing Windows also encrypts all of your data so it cannot be intercepted by third parties when using public Wi-Fi networks.  Something that you usually need a VPN for.

ii.)  Private Browsing Modes

Private Browsing Modes are essential for anyone looking to protect their online identity and privacy while still being able to access the web.  This mode is available on most modern browsers and can be easily enabled by selecting the “private browsing” option from the settings menu.

When enabled, this feature disables cookies, history tracking, and other data-collection methods used by websites to track user activity.  It also prevents advertisers from targeting you based on your browsing habits.

iii.)  Secure Browsers

Secure Browsers are web browsers designed to protect your online data and identity by using the highest levels of encryption available.  These web browsers encrypt all data sent and received between your computer and the internet, helping to keep your personal information private.

Secure browsers also block malicious content such as malware, spyware, and phishing sites that can compromise your security.  They also include features like anti-tracking technology which prevents websites from tracking your activity across different pages or devices.

When you use a secure browser, you can be sure that your private information is protected while you browse the web.

Pros and Cons of Different Privacy Browsers

So of course in the Internet age Privacy Browsers are becoming increasingly popular as people become more aware of the dangers of online tracking and data collection.  Different privacy browsers come with different levels of security and protection, so it’s important to know the pros and cons before making a decision.

Tor Browser is a popular choice due to its strong encryption and anti-tracking technology.  This means that your data is always kept secure while you browse the web.

However, Tor can be slow compared to other browsers, making it less suitable for streaming or gaming.

Brave Browser (Our Top Pick) is another popular choice for those looking for additional privacy features.  Brave blocks ads, trackers, and other forms of surveillance without sacrificing speed or performance.

It also comes with an integrated VPN which allows you to access certain websites that may be blocked in your country or region.  However, Brave only works on certain platforms like MacOS and Windows, so it may not be suitable for everyone.

Yandex is actually awesome and well worth considering for a privacy-based browser but the biggest con is it isn’t English.

Finally, Firefox Focus is a great option for those who want an ultra-secure browser experience without giving up speed or convenience.  Firefox Focus blocks all trackers by default and includes additional features such as private tabs which automatically delete all browsing history when closed.

However, the downside is that Firefox Focus doesn’t support all websites or plugins, so it may not suit everyone’s needs.

So What Privacy Browser Should You Choose?

Choosing the right privacy browser for you can mean the difference between safe and secure browsing or putting yourself at risk of online threats.  With a variety of options available, it’s important to research your choices and make an informed decision about which one will provide you with the best protection.

Things to consider Include;

Private Windows and Modes

Private windows and modes are additional security features available in some browsers that can help further protect your online privacy.  Private windows allow you to open a separate window or tab with all tracking and data collection disabled, meaning your browsing activity will not be stored or tracked.

Similarly, private modes are settings within the browser that disable tracking and data collection for your overall session.

These features can be useful when browsing sensitive content such as financial information or health records.  It is important to remember, however, that private windows and modes do not guarantee full anonymity and should never be used as a substitution for a secure VPN connection.

Built-In Ad-Blocking and Tracker Blocking

Another important feature to consider when choosing a privacy browser is its built-in ad-blocking and tracker-blocking capabilities.  Ad-blocking technology prevents advertisements from loading on websites, while tracker blocking prevents third-party websites from tracking your online activity.

These features can significantly enhance your online privacy and security by minimizing the amount of data that is collected about you, reducing the risk of online tracking, and protecting you against malicious ads that may contain malware.

Encryption and HTTPS

Encryption and HTTPS are crucial security features that help protect your sensitive information from being intercepted by hackers or other malicious actors.  HTTPS is a secure protocol that ensures your connection to a website is encrypted, while encryption involves encoding your data so that it can only be read by authorized parties.

A privacy browser that supports encryption and HTTPS is essential for online transactions, such as online banking or shopping, as they help protect your personal and financial information from being stolen.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

If you use multiple devices to browse the internet, you’ll want to choose a privacy browser that is compatible with all of them. Cross-platform compatibility means that you can seamlessly switch between devices without losing your bookmarks, passwords, and other data.

This feature is especially important for those who use their browser to store sensitive information, such as login credentials, as it ensures that your data is always accessible and protected, regardless of the device you’re using.

In Conclusion

Choosing a privacy browser can seem overwhelming, but by considering the features discussed above, you can make an informed decision about which one will provide you with the best protection.

Ultimately, the right privacy browser for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences, but with a little research, you can find one that offers the features and capabilities you need to browse the internet with confidence.

Again Privacy browsers to consider Include;

  • Tor Browser
  • Brave Browser
  • Yandex
  • Firefox Focus
  • Vivaldi
  • DuckDuckGo

Our top pick again is Brave Browser because you can earn Brave tokens whilst earning.  If it wasn’t for this we would either suggest Tor or Yandex.  DuckDuckGo I don’t think can no longer be trusted as it was revealed that it doesn’t block all Microsoft trackers, and it also come out in the past year that they had started censoring search results like Google.

For us, this is very suspicious.  DuckDuckGo is obviously still better than Google but seriously Brave is much better.
